The Darkest Light

I am the sleepy laughter of a small child
I let go of magic at the age of ten
I am the dull moon drowned under the sun
And I know why the Caged Bird Sings

I am the bitter smile of the wronged man
The dancer who will never dance again
I am the strictest ruler who likes to bend
The restless sleeper in a wonderful bed

I am the butterfly who lost her wings
The leaf who can only float when there’s wind
The horrible sound silence makes
The glass in a mirror, only once it breaks

I am the shadow in the corner when the world is bright
I am the hungry man who cannot bite

I want to be the bringer of light
