This week, HHS Press is showcasing the many talents of students at HHS. Today, we kick things off with a photo essay capturing the beautiful work created by students taking art classes.

The art department has always been a major part of student life at Hopkinton High School. From ceramics to digital art to studio art and everything in between, students always look forward to taking art as their elective. Ceramics, taught by Ms.Rainey, encourages students to express their creativity through clay and painting, while studio art focuses on everything from watercolors to pastels. Smartphone photography, taught by Mr. Worrell, and digital art, taught by department head Mrs. Gianino, take creativity in a different direction by using today’s technology to express new art and photos.

Students can take semester classes ranging in different levels of difficulty. For instance, there are advanced art classes available for students who are interested in testing their artistic abilities and challenging themselves with a more rigorous course. Rainey, who has taught art at HHS for 13 years, has seen a lot of growth in the department’s offerings during that time. “Students’ abilities to access a variety of different courses has gotten a lot better, they now have more classes available and more choices than we’ve ever had before at HHS,” she said. “Art gives students a hands own approach that they don’t get in many other classes.”

Art classes provide students with a creative outlet during the school day, and give them opportunities that they might not encounter otherwise.
