#TBT Photo Essay: Powder Puff Football

With everyone in the Hopkinton High School community eagerly anticipating the New England Patriots’ upcoming playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs this Saturday, we find ourselves looking back to a high-stakes match-up of our own: the November 2015 Powder Puff football game. This photo essay captures the teams’ preparations, practices, and efforts on the field.

Every year Hopkinton High School holds a powder puff game in which the junior girls play the senior girls in flag football. This game has been an ongoing tradition at the school for many years now, and as the ninth year of powder puff came around the students got really into it and the hype about the game began weeks in advance. The game brings school and class pride to the two grades playing and students enjoy the friendly rivalries and the chance to play under the lights. This year’s game took place on Friday, Nov. 20 on the football field. Seniors decorated their fan section and even brought posters with pictures of the players faces on them to cheer them on!

Both teams played great and fought till the very end, but the juniors came out on top with a final score of 20 to 13. After a tough loss last year, the class of 2016 was not happy with this outcome. However, at the end of the game the two teams shook hands and exchanged “good games.” This year’s game was certainly one for the books, and hopefully next year will be just as exciting.
