Trip to Greece: Students Anxiously Anticipate Journey

    By Victoria Esper

For the first time at HHS, twenty-eight students will embark on an educational school trip to Greece over April vacation. With the trip only weeks away, anticipation grows as the students look forward to the sites and experiences in store.

Eagerly awaiting the departure date, junior Jill Kellett, explained what she is most excited about, “I want to be an architect, so a lot of the ancient greek architecture is really influential, so that was one of the more exciting things.”

The nine-day excursion includes guided tours of historic monuments such as the Parthenon, Temple of Athena Nike, and Temple of Apollo. The travelers will have an entire day to explore the ancient city of Athens on their own.

As April break approaches, student attending the trip share the differences of this trip compared to other past school-sponsored trips. Junior Brigid Marquedant adds, “Most of the trips I’ve been on have been with my family and I’m going with a lot of girls that I’ve never really talked to before, so I’m hopefully going to make new friends and get to know them better.”

Although this trip will be fun and exciting, planning a trip across the world is no easy task. English teacher, chaperone and organizer of the trip, Ms. Martin, explains, “It’s a lot of work, and organization… Trying to get the paperwork in, kids not answering their emails, trying to collect the money, so you know its a lot of time.”

The students going on this trip will be exposed to the Greece culture which Martin explain as, “one that affects everybody, all literature, all art, and all history.”

Students will fly overnight to Athens on April 16, and depart for Boston on April 24.
