With a new season beginning, the Hopkinton Boys Varsity Lacrosse team is looking to achieve some major goals this year. This season, they have experienced players for all of the positions. Captains, Calvin Lee, Jeremy Gram, Peter Racenis, and Sam Macdonald, are ready to lead their team to victory, and become one of the top teams in the league. Their first game will be at home on April 6th against Dover Sherborn. The whole team hopes to advance to at least the second round of the tournament, beating their biggest rivals: Medfield and Dover Sherborn. Then advancing to crush Holliston, Westwood and the rest of the TVL teams.

The varsity boys have been keeping in shape for lacrosse season. Many of them play indoor lacrosse, run, and lift weights.  A majority of the players believe that the core of the team is the defense, Jeremy Gram and Sam Macdonald. The midfield and attackers are also expected to do well. With Calvin Lee, Jay Lee, and Peter Racenis playing midfield, they are hoping for a major improvement this season. The attackers, Matt Manzella, Will Ballantyne, and Connor O’Brien, are hoping to be a solid, aggressive group.

Jeremy Gram, one of the leaders of the team, who plays close defense, has been working very hard since last year to be in shape. He says, “The crowd should keep their eyes on Calvin for the ‘madtastic’ flow and moves, and to watch Sam for bone crunching, concussion generating hits.” He believes this season will be one of the best and is hoping to end his senior year of with a season of Hiller lacrosse to remember.

The Hiller boys have become more united, and are ready to work with their brand new look. “Our greatest strength overall however is the way we have meshed as a team. We are a single unit on and off the field and will only get stronger and closer as the year progresses,” says Calvin Lee, one the Varsity captains.

With the loss of Tom Weaver, a huge inspiration and role model, especially in the town of Hopkinton, Peter Racenis, one of the captains, says, “The team will be united and motivated by the inspiration that Tom has given to all of us.”
