The Boston Bruins: On the road to the Stanley Cup?

By: christian lavoie

Over the past few years the Boston Bruins have been steadily improving their losing ways. Three years ago the Bruins finished the season at the bottom of the Northeast Division and a sub .500 record. The next year they had a 41-29-12 record and managed to make the NHL playoffs by clinching the eighth and last seed of the Eastern Conference to make it to the playoffs. In the 2008-2009 season the Bruins finished off the regular season in first place of the Eastern Conference with a 53-19-10 record. They shut out the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the playoffs only to lose to the Carolina Hurricanes in the conference semi-finals. Since the Bruins seem to be improving  on last years season, many Boston fans looking towards this season with the Stanley Cup in mind.

So far, this goal has not been working out. The Boston Bruins have started the first fourteen games of the season with a 6-7-1 record. They are currently in 10th place of the Eastern Conference. In order to make the playoffs a team must be one of the top eight teams of their conference. The Bruins still have plenty of time to improve their record with 68 games left to play. It is unfortunate that Boston has started the season off this way but Bruins fans must maintain a positive mindset because it is still very early.
